Elite 4 week course
Runs from
14th June - July 9th 2010 (skiing only)
or
23rd August - September 17th 2010 (skiing and boarding)
Course participants arrive in Thredbo on Sunday June 13th or the 22nd August, depending on which course, giving them the opportunity to settle into their accommodation and get organized for the program start the following morning.
Welcome drinks take place on the Sunday evening in the legendary Bernti’s Mountain Inn, to help everyone get to know each other and acclimatize before getting stuck into it first thing the next day ... the great thing about living in the village is we can get on snow at 8.30 am each day, and enjoy the best snow and grooming while everyone else is still commuting up the hill.
Week 1
Teaching Foundations
An introduction to all facets of ski instruction, including free skiing, demonstrating and most importantly how and what to teach.
Week 2
Free ski development and demo practice
With a foundation established, we set to work on developing candidates’ free-skiing and demonstration skills.
Week 3
Skill development and practical teaching
This is the week when you will really gain confidence in your teaching and skiing. Class shadowing will be available on your days off to observe experienced instructors teaching and managing real classes. This is also when we start the job process for anyone interested in working as an instructor for Thredbo Snowsports School for the rest of the winter.
Week 4
APSI course & exam
After a last training day spent focusing on fine tuning your skills, confidence building and exam tips, you will attend the 4 day APSI Entry Level Instructor Course and Exam. This will be held in Thredbo on familiar terrain and run by the APSI.
